Wandering
"Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe." - Anatole France Street photography has a special place in my heart. I would spend many hours poring over images by photographers from Alex Webb to Mary Allen Mark and my favorite, Elliott Erwitt. I don't get to make these types of images as often I want to, but I love it. Walking around making pictures are two of my favorite things.

Family
She was a gift from my cousin who found her while visiting a friend. She was emaciated and muddy from recent rains and her ear was torn from a recent fight. She ran to my cousin, stopped at her feet and rolled over, showing her belly. It was almost as if to say, "You're my last chance". My cousin picked her up and walked around the neighborhood looking for her owner. No one wanted her or cared. My cousin wrapped the orphaned mutt in her arms and drove home to feed her. Her

At The Farmer's Market
Let us not forget that the cultivation of the earth is the most important labor of man. When tillage begins, other arts will follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of civilization. - Daniel Webster

Those Moments
I don't think of myself as specializing in children's photography, but I'm often asked to take photos of kids. It's truly one of the most rewarding experiences. With kids what you see is what you get. It's honest and real. A child's mood can swing from happy to mad to sad in a manner of minutes and its all so heartfelt. So what you see in the photos are real, honest, heartfelt moments...and there is nothing better then a genuine smile.

An incredibly fun day of shooting can lead to stunning portraits that truly encapsulate the essence of the person being photographed. Each session is an opportunity to explore and express the multifaceted nature of human identity. .

Why?
I can still hear my good friend Iraj from journalism school saying, “Mykel, why? A photo must have a 'why!'" I agree with him. However, there has always been a part of me that likes and seeks out images that ask questions too. Maybe I'm drawn to those photographs -- and photographers -- because so much of the world leaves me with questions. Gary Winograd is one such photographer. So much of his work fills me with a sense of wonder. His compositions are intriguing, and his

Musician
It's not just a song or a verse. It's not just a hook or a chorus...it goes deeper. Rich sings because he has to. His voice is his instrument, like a poet who uses words and rhythm, or a painter who uses their brush. #musician #singer #soul

The real reason I love photography... I had the good fortune and pleasure of spending time with this beautiful woman in Mexico. We were there to build a house for her and her family. At the end of the day she invited us to dinner (I was told later that she had spent nearly a week’s wages to feed us). We sat chatting about the day and her life in Mexico. I still remember her smile. It electrified a room already warmed by her generosity, and we feasted on the best chicken mole
